Best Practices

Utilize dual authorization for Internet banking transactions. This process requires a secondary person to verify and approve the transaction, reducing the potential for unauthorized transactions. It reduces the risk of external fraud by requiring the knowledge of the User ID and password for at least two individuals to complete the transaction.
Physically separate the computer you use for Internet banking from use by others to ensure it is controlled.
Do not access the internet on the computer you use for Internet banking; accessing Internet websites increases the risk of obtaining malicious software on your computer that can access your account information and computer data.
Protect User IDs, passwords, and security question answers. Do not write them down, store them in a file on your computer, or share them with anyone; Bank personnel will never ask you to share your confidential password. Do not utilize the browser’s short cut that remembers the password previously entered. Request a new User ID or password if you suspect either one could have been compromised.
Create strong passwords that use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (e.g. @, %, $, and !). Change your passwords regularly and whenever there is a possibility that they may have been compromised.
Do not use public computers to access Internet banking. They may contain malicious software that can capture your User ID, password, and other confidential information contained in emails or within your files.
Ensure all users are educated on potential threats and what actions to take if they should notice the system operating unusually or if the system’s software should warn of a threat.
Notify the Bank immediately upon any suspicion that your computer may have been compromised, so that changes can be made to your User ID and password.
